As another school year in Haiti approaches, many parents are uncertain about sending their children to school. Insecurity remains a major concern for them, fearing that they might pay for school fees only to see the schools closing down once more due to gang violence.
Parents in Haiti are hesitant to send their children to school due to the risk of them not returning home because of gang violence. Additionally, they are concerned about the financial burden of paying for school fees, clothing, transportation, uniforms, and other expenses, only to face chaos and lose all the money they invested without any hope of a refund. Given that money is scarce in Haiti, parents are understandably cautious.
It is tragic that education equals power globally. In Haiti, children do not have a guaranteed path to education, as the Haitian government cannot reassure parents that everything will go smoothly. The school bell will ring in a few weeks, signaling the end of recess.
I sincerely wish that everything goes smoothly for the children and parents, and that the children receive their God-given right to learn in a peaceful environment. Until next time.
